Hair & Face Mask

I love avocadoes on toast or as Guacamole with nachos or celery and carrot sticks. And recently it was on sale, so I bought 6 avocadoes! Now, obviously by the time I reached the last one it was overripe!  So, I decided to treat my hair to some fresh Avocado mask!

If you are shaking your head and rolling your eyes… I understand. A few years ago, I would have done the same! But since I have embarked on my if you can eat it you can wear it journey, I have loved putting things together to make my hair and skin look and feel naturally beautiful!

The first time I used it, I had long curly and super frizzy hair. It was as I lovingly called it, “My Drowning Glory”. When I used this mask, the results were stunning. My hair was suddenly frizz-free and full of body. The hair felt deeply conditioned and had a smooth shine and was completely tangle free! The comb just glided through it like a hot knife through butter (if you have curly hair, you know what I mean)!!!!

I use it once a month (sometimes twice) and now the hair is strong and healthy and shiny. And my family & I have forever said good-bye to dandruff! That’s the best thing about this avocado mask – that everyone can use it, whether your hair is dry or oily, fine or coarse, short or long. The avocado works for all hair and scalp.

So, let’s get down to the how to part…

You will need:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • ½ tsp Fenugreek Seed Powder
  • 1 tablespoon ghee (or Olive Oil)
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ½ cup coconut milk (optional, use for extra softness)

To make it, simply blend all ingredients in a blender to a smooth paste. Its best to use a blender because doing it by hand will leave lumps that will not spread easily.

How to apply

Start with dry or damp hair. Apply this mask to your scalp and hair. Put on your shower cap or wrap your head in a muslin cloth or a towel. You can also leave your hair uncovered as this mixture won’t drip.

Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse out. Shampoo and let your hair dry naturally.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Choose a ripe avocado. Unripe one will not have the same effect.
  • If you are using a banana it needs to be over ripe.
  • Blend the mask really well. You don’t want any chunks, just smooth paste of creamy consistency. This will make it easier to spread as well as rinse out.

Avocado Face Mask

Here’s a bonus… You can save some avocado mask for your face. It will give you baby-soft skin.

Avocadoes contain vital minerals such as calcium, iron, copper, potassium, magnesium and other vitamins that provides an extensive range of benefits. By carefully extracting these nutrients, avocado facial masks offer advantages such as:

  • Treating sensitive, dry or acne prone skin
  • Enhancing skin elasticity
  • Reversing effects of aging
  • Can be homemade
  • Suitable for all skin types.

So go ahead and treat yourself to a nourishing skin and hair treatment this weekend!
